Dockworkers from the U.S. East Coast and the Gulf of Mexico, represented by the International Longshoremen's Association (ILA), have reached a preliminary agreement with the shipping industry employer group USMX, effectively ending their strike.
This development brings relief to a significant portion of global supply chains, given the critical role these ports play not only for the U.S. but for global trade.
With their strategic location and advanced infrastructure, these terminals are capable of handling large volumes of cargo, serving as a key bridge between Europe, Africa, and the Americas. Additionally, since the expansion of the Panama Canal, traffic with Asia—where West Coast ports are key players—has seen a substantial increase in recent years.
