Quick Answer: With AB Group Shipping, port-to-port LCL consolidated cargo to Buenos Aires starts from $579 for 2 m³ / 500 kg out of Miami (September 2026 quote), with about 14 days of ocean transit. Argentina then charges duty on the CIF value, a 3% tasa de estadística and 21% IVA.
- LCL to Buenos Aires is billed by revenue ton — whichever is greater, volume or weight at the consolidator's ratio — subject to a minimum charge.
- September 2026 ABGS consolidated rates: from $579 (Miami) and $628 (Houston) for 2 m³ / 500 kg, port to port. The price table under the quick answer updates itself.
- Argentine import taxes stack: ad valorem duty on CIF, 3% tasa de estadística (extended to 31 December 2027 by Decreto 1140/2024) and 21% IVA (Ley 23.349 art. 28) on the duty-paid base.
- Under Argentina's régimen general you need a licensed despachante de aduana and an importer who meets ARCA's registration requirements — ARCA's courier exception does not apply to ocean LCL.

How does an LCL shipping calculator for Argentina work?
Quick Answer: An LCL shipping calculator for Argentina prices your cargo from five inputs: total cubic meters, gross weight, origin port, destination (Buenos Aires) and commodity type. It returns a port-to-port ocean rate per revenue ton, plus consolidation charges. Taxes and Argentine destination handling are quoted separately.
Every consolidated quote starts from the same five data points. Get them wrong and the final invoice will not match the estimate.
- Total CBM — the cubic volume of every piece, measured to the outside of the pallet.
- Gross weight in kg — cargo plus pallet plus shrink wrap, not net product weight.
- Origin gateway — Miami, Houston, New York/New Jersey and others each have different sailing structures and transit times.
- Incoterm — EXW, FOB or DAP changes where our scope starts and stops.
- Commodity and NCM code — the 8-digit Mercosur tariff code drives duty and any product control.
Why piece dimensions matter more than totals
A calculator that only asks for total CBM will under-quote non-stackable cargo. At the container freight station (CFS), a pallet marked NO STACK occupies full container height over its floor footprint. The consolidator bills that occupied space, not your measured carton volume.
Overlength is the other trap. Pieces beyond 2.4 metres will not fit a standard consolidation box cleanly, and the co-loader may reject them or surcharge heavily. Give piece-by-piece dimensions and you get a quote that survives remeasurement.
What the calculator prices, and what a human quotes
The embedded calculator at #quote-calc prices port-to-port ocean freight and consolidation. It does not price Argentine destination handling, customs brokerage, duty, IVA or inland trucking out of Buenos Aires. Those are local costs billed by local parties, often in pesos.
Which US gateway serves your region
Your zip code decides your port, and your port decides your price and transit. Florida feeds PortMiami. Texas and the central states feed Port Houston. The Northeast feeds the Port of New York and New Jersey. California and the Southwest feed Los Angeles/Long Beach. The Southeast feeds Savannah. Midwest volumes move by rail through Chicago to a coastal gateway.
If you also ship into the Andean market, the same logic applies there — our LCL Shipping to Colombia Calculator: Price per CBM 2026 breaks down a parallel LatAm lane with the same revenue-ton math.
Pro Tip
Weigh and measure your pallets after they are wrapped and labeled, on a certified floor scale. CFS warehouses remeasure on receipt. A 1.9 CBM pallet you declared as 1.6 CBM gets rebilled at the higher figure, and you have no grounds to dispute it.

Go to the calculator →How do I calculate CBM for an LCL shipment to Buenos Aires?
Quick Answer: CBM equals length times width times height in meters, per piece, added together. A pallet measuring 1.2 m x 1.0 m x 1.5 m equals 1.8 CBM. Consolidators bill the greater of volume or weight — the W/M revenue ton — subject to their minimum charge per shipment.
CBM means cubic meter. The formula is simple: length × width × height, all in meters. A 1.2 × 1.0 m pallet loaded to 1.5 m tall measures 1.2 × 1.0 × 1.5 = 1.8 CBM.
The W/M revenue ton rule explained
Ocean consolidators do not bill volume alone. They apply the W/M rule, where weight or measurement decides the charge. Each consolidator sets the weight-to-volume ratio it uses, so confirm it on your quote. The carrier bills whichever number is higher. The examples below assume 1,000 kg per cubic meter for illustration only.
Light, bulky cargo pays on volume. Dense cargo pays on weight. Check your quote for a minimum charge per shipment: a small crate can bill above its measured volume.
Worked example: volume wins
Four pallets of packaged consumer goods, each 1.2 × 1.0 × 1.5 m. Total volume: 4 × 1.8 = 7.2 CBM. Total gross weight: 3,400 kg, which equals 3.4 tons.
Volume (7.2) beats weight (3.4). You are billed on 7.2 revenue tons.
Worked example: weight wins
Two cubic meters of porcelain tile weighing 2,800 kg. Volume is 2.0. Weight is 2.8 tons. The consolidator bills 2.8 revenue tons — a 40% jump over the volume figure.
Dense commodities like tile, machinery parts, fasteners, liquids and stone almost always bill on weight. Know this before you quote a customer.
The W/M conversion that decides your bill. Convert your gross kilos at your consolidator's ratio, compare that number to your cubic meters, and the larger one is what you pay for.
Non-stackable, oversized and overhanging cargo
A NO-STACK marking turns floor space into billed height. If your 1.2 × 1.0 m pallet cannot take weight on top, the CFS may bill the full column above it. On a 2.4 m stuffing height, that converts 1.8 CBM into 2.88 CBM.
Measure to the outside of the pallet, including shrink wrap and any carton overhang. The cbm shipping requirements usa to argentina are enforced at the CFS scale and tape measure — not at your warehouse.
Overhang costs more than you think
Cartons that hang 5 cm past the pallet edge on all four sides add about 0.11 CBM per pallet and risk crush damage in a shared container. Restack inside the footprint. Shared-container cargo gets handled repeatedly between your dock and the Buenos Aires CFS.
How much does LCL shipping to Argentina cost per cubic meter?
Quick Answer: LCL to Buenos Aires is priced per revenue ton, not with a flat number. With AB Group Shipping, 2 m³ / 500 kg port to port started from $579 out of Miami and $628 out of Houston in September 2026. Rates move monthly — the price table on this page updates itself.
There is no single per-CBM figure for Argentina. The price depends on your gateway, your volume and whether weight or volume governs the bill.
Other US origins
If your cargo sits outside Florida or Texas, we price from the nearest listed gateway and label it as an approximation. Northeast volume approximates the Miami lane structure at roughly $579 approx., sailing from New York/New Jersey. California, the Southwest, the Pacific Northwest and the Midwest each route through their own gateway, and the calculator prices your exact origin city.
Why per-CBM cost falls as volume rises
Consolidation fees, documentation fees and B/L issuance are fixed per shipment. Spread over 2 CBM they look expensive. Spread over 12 CBM they almost disappear. That is why your effective per-CBM price drops sharply as you scale up.

What lcl rates miami to buenos aires actually include
The port-to-port number covers ocean freight, origin consolidation and bunker exposure (BAF/CAF). It does not cover Argentine destination handling, CFS deconsolidation in Buenos Aires, customs brokerage, duty, the 3% tasa de estadística, 21% IVA, or trucking to your warehouse.
For a much shorter Caribbean comparison on the same billing logic, see LCL Shipping Miami to Panama 2026: Small Business Cost Calculator and Transit Times.
All-in quotes are rarely all-in
Any quote presented as "door to door, all included" into Argentina deserves scrutiny. Argentine destination charges are set locally, partly in pesos, and duty depends on your NCM code. Ask for an itemized breakdown separating ocean freight, destination charges and taxes before you commit.

Go to the calculator →How long does LCL ocean freight take from the USA to Argentina?
Quick Answer: Ocean transit from the USA to Buenos Aires runs about 14 days from Miami and from New Jersey, and about 29 days from Houston, port to port. LCL adds roughly 5 to 10 days on each end for warehouse consolidation at origin and CFS deconsolidation in Argentina before cargo is released.

| Origin gateway | Ocean transit (port to port) | Typical sailing pattern |
|---|---|---|
| Miami (USMIA) | 14 days | Weekly consolidation |
| New Jersey (USNYC) | 14 days | Weekly consolidation |
| Houston (USHOU) | 29 days | Weekly, with transshipment leg |
Source: AB Group Shipping ocean transit reference, port to port · September 2026
Why Houston takes more than double Miami
East Coast South America strings out of Miami and New York/New Jersey run close to direct down the Atlantic coast. Gulf cargo out of Houston usually feeds a hub first, waits for a connecting vessel, then sails south. Every transshipment adds berth time, yard time and schedule risk.
Cut-off, CFS closing and vessel ETD are three different dates
New importers treat these as one date. They are not. The CFS closing date is when your cargo must physically be inside the consolidation warehouse. The documentation cut-off is when the B/L instructions and commercial invoice are due. The vessel ETD is days later.
Miss the CFS closing on a weekly sailing and you lose a full seven days, not a few hours. Independent tools such as this Transit Time Calculator for Sea, Air & Port To Port Shipping are useful for sanity-checking schedules, but your booking confirmation holds the binding dates.
Port-to-port transit
This is the number carriers publish: vessel departure to vessel arrival. Miami and New Jersey to Buenos Aires run about 14 days. Houston runs about 29. It excludes everything happening on land at either end.
Door-to-availability reality
Add origin trucking, CFS receiving, stuffing time, then Argentine discharge, container stripping and CFS segregation. Realistically add 5 to 10 days on each end before your despachante can even file.
Is LCL or FCL cheaper for shipping to Argentina?
Quick Answer: LCL is cheaper below roughly 10 to 13 cubic meters to Buenos Aires. Above that range a 20-foot container usually wins on cost per cubic meter, and it also removes CFS deconsolidation fees and co-loader handling risk. Air freight only makes sense under about 150 kg or for urgent, high-value goods.
The break-even on the USA–Buenos Aires lane sits around 10 to 13 CBM. It moves lower when your cargo is dense, because weight-based billing inflates the LCL side. It also moves lower when pallets are non-stackable.
| Mode | Billing basis | Practical minimum | Best use case |
|---|---|---|---|
| LCL | Per revenue ton (greater of CBM or tons) | Consolidator's minimum charge | Under 10 CBM, weekly restocking, first-time importers |
| 20ft FCL | Flat rate per container | About 10–13 CBM to justify | Dense cargo, full pallets, high-value goods needing sealed transit |
| 40ft / 40HC FCL | Flat rate per container | About 28–30 CBM to justify | Light bulky cargo, furniture, full product lines |
| Air freight | Per chargeable kg (greater of actual or volumetric weight) | No practical minimum | Under ~150 kg, urgent spares, samples, high-value electronics |
What FCL quietly buys you in Argentina
A sealed container means no shared-container damage exposure and no CFS deconsolidation line item. You get a single Bill of Lading, your own customs file, and release that does not wait on another importer's paperwork. For regulated destinations, that control has real value.
What keeps LCL attractive
Weekly sailings, no obligation to fill a box, and a far smaller cash outlay per shipment. A small importer can test the Argentine market with 2 or 3 cubic meters instead of financing a full container of inventory that may not sell.
One importer's problem becomes everyone's delay
In a consolidated container, customs can hold the whole box while one consignee's documentation is resolved. Argentina's régimen general is document-intensive, which raises that risk. If your cargo is time-critical or seasonal, the premium for a 20ft FCL often pays for itself in avoided storage.

Go to the calculator →What fees are not included in an LCL shipping calculator for Argentina?
Quick Answer: An online calculator shows port-to-port ocean freight and consolidation. It does not include Argentine destination charges — CFS deconsolidation, terminal handling, depot transfer — nor customs brokerage, duty, the 3% tasa de estadística, 21% IVA or inland trucking from Buenos Aires. Those are billed locally, often in pesos.
This is where most landed-cost estimates break. The freight was never the expensive part.
What CFS deconsolidation actually is
When the shared container lands in Buenos Aires, a bonded warehouse strips it. Staff separate each consignee's pallets, weigh them, log them and hold them until each despachante clears his file. That labour is the deconsolidation charge, and it is billed per CBM or per B/L at destination.
| Charge | Billed by | Measured | In the online calculator? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Origin pickup / drayage | Origin trucker | Per trip | No (unless EXW scope) |
| Origin CFS receiving + stuffing | Consolidator | Per CBM / R/T | Yes |
| Ocean freight + BAF/CAF | Carrier / NVOCC | Per revenue ton | Yes |
| B/L issuance + documentation | NVOCC | Per B/L | Yes |
| Terminal handling, Buenos Aires | Port terminal | Per container / CBM | No |
| CFS deconsolidation | Argentine bonded warehouse | Per CBM / per B/L | No |
| Customs brokerage (despachante) | Licensed despachante de aduana | Per declaration | No |
| Duty + 3% estadística + 21% IVA | ARCA / Aduana | % of CIF and duty-paid base | No |
| Storage after free time | Argentine warehouse | Per day | No |
| Inland trucking from Buenos Aires | Local carrier | Per trip / per km | No |
Peso charges and FX exposure
Local Argentine charges are quoted in pesos and move with the exchange rate. Customs taxes themselves are set in US dollars. Under Resolución General 3271/2012 (art. 20 of Ley 23.905), when paid in pesos they convert at Banco de la Nación Argentina's selling rate at close of the business day before payment. That is a published rate, not one set at the moment of settlement.
Free time, storage, and why slow paperwork hurts
Argentine CFS warehouses grant limited free time. Once it expires, daily storage accrues against your cargo. A shipment that saved $200 on freight can lose that and more in storage while a missing certificate of origin is chased.
Why is shipping to Argentina expensive
Four reasons stack up. Non-recoverable duty on CIF. The 3% tasa de estadística, which no one gets back. Mandatory brokerage under the régimen general. And a clearance process with more controls than most regional markets. The ocean freight is often the smallest line on the invoice.
Budget destination charges before you book
Argentine destination handling and door delivery are not AB Group Shipping freight, and we will not invent a figure for them. Ask your despachante de aduana in Buenos Aires for a written estimate of terminal, CFS and brokerage costs before your cargo sails. Build that into your landed cost from day one.

Go to the calculator →What import taxes and duties does Argentina charge on LCL cargo?
Quick Answer: Argentina assesses ad valorem import duty on the CIF value of the goods at the port of entry, adds a 3% tasa de estadística on definitive imports for consumption, and applies 21% IVA. IVA is calculated on the duty-paid base — CIF plus duty plus the statistics fee — not on CIF alone.
Per the US Country Commercial Guide for Argentina ("Import Tariffs", 1 August 2025), ad valorem duties apply to the CIF value — cost plus insurance plus freight — at the Argentine port or airport of entry. Freight is therefore part of your tax base, not separate from it.
The three stacked charges
- Ad valorem duty — rate set by your 8-digit NCM code under the Mercosur Common Nomenclature (MERCOSUR, Preguntas frecuentes).
- Tasa de estadística — 3% on definitive imports for consumption, extended until 31 December 2027 by Decreto 1140/2024 (B.O. 31/12/2024).
- IVA — 21% general rate, per Ley 23.349 art. 28, applied to the duty-paid base.
Why your NCM code matters more than your product name
Argentina's duty rate is determined by the 8-digit NCM tariff code, not by how you describe the goods on the invoice. Get the classification confirmed by a licensed despachante before you ship. Mercosur tariff preferences apply only to goods originating in member countries, so US-made goods receive no preferential treatment (MERCOSUR; International Trade Administration).
Insurance you did not buy may still be taxed
Under Decreto 1026/1987, Argentine Customs may impute an insurance value into the CIF base even when no insurance was purchased. Shipping uninsured does not reliably shrink your tax base. It only leaves your cargo unprotected.
Worked example showing the math
Assume USD 10,000 FOB of general merchandise, USD 700 ocean freight, USD 100 insurance. Suppose your NCM code carries a 14% duty rate — confirm your own rate, this is illustrative only.
- Build the CIF base: 10,000 + 700 + 100 = USD 10,800.
- Apply duty at 14%: 10,800 × 0.14 = USD 1,512.
- Add the 3% tasa de estadística: 10,800 × 0.03 = USD 324.
- Build the duty-paid base: 10,800 + 1,512 + 324 = USD 12,636.
- Apply 21% IVA: 12,636 × 0.21 = USD 2,653.56.
Total taxes in this example: USD 4,489.56 on USD 10,000 of goods. The duty rate used is an assumption; yours comes from your NCM code.
Which of those taxes you get back
Cash flow matters here. Per RG 2937/2010, import IVA is usually creditable for a responsable inscripto, and perceptions function as advance payments. Import duty and the 3% statistics fee are non-recoverable costs that belong permanently in your margin calculation.
Confirm anything beyond these rates
Perceptions, licensing requirements and product-specific interventions change and vary by NCM code. AB Group Shipping is a freight forwarder, not a customs or tax advisor. Confirm your full tax position with us or with a licensed despachante de aduana before you buy or ship.
Which documents does Argentina require for an LCL import?
Quick Answer: Argentina's régimen general requires a licensed despachante de aduana and an importer who meets ARCA's registration requirements. The core document set is the Factura Comercial, packing list, ocean Bill of Lading, certificate of origin where a preference or control applies, and an ISPM-15 treatment mark on wood packing.
Per ARCA's Régimen General de Importaciones, a licensed despachante de aduana is mandatory. ARCA's courier exception — which waives the broker for door-to-door parcels — does not apply to ocean LCL. The importer of record must meet ARCA's registration requirements (ARCA was formerly AFIP); confirm them with your despachante before shipping.
The argentina import documents lcl checklist
- Factura Comercial — commercial invoice with full description, unit values and Incoterm.
- Packing list — piece count, dimensions, gross and net weight per package.
- Bill of Lading — original set or telex release, matching the invoice exactly.
- Certificado de Origen — where a preference or trade control applies.
- Insurance certificate — supports the CIF declaration.
- NCM classification sheet — the 8-digit code your despachante will declare.
ISPM-15 wood packing: avoid an LCL rejection
Wood pallets and crates must be heat-treated or fumigated and carry a visible ISPM-15 stamp. A consolidation warehouse can refuse a pallet with untreated wood. Check the mark before you truck cargo to the CFS, because rejection at the dock means you miss the sailing.
SENASA-controlled goods
SENASA intervention is mandatory for fruit, plants, flowers, vegetables and their parts, seeds, roots, rhizomes and soil, and for live animals and meat (Resolución ANA 3751/1994, point 1.8). These shipments need their approvals arranged before arrival, not after.
Used vehicles are a separate matter
Nationalisation of used vehicles into Argentina is prohibited, with exceptions (Resolución 293/2025, Secretaría de Industria y Comercio, 24 July 2025). Do not plan a vehicle import as general LCL cargo. If you are shipping a car, start with our Car Shipping to Argentina Calculator: Instant Rates and speak to a specialist first.
Verify before you buy, not after
Any licensing, declaration or product-control requirement not listed on this page must be confirmed with us or with a licensed despachante de aduana before you ship. Argentina's import controls are updated frequently, and an unconfirmed assumption can strand your cargo in a bonded warehouse.
How do I book an LCL shipment to Buenos Aires step by step?
Quick Answer: Run your CBM and weight through the calculator on this page, confirm the Incoterm and NCM code, book against a weekly sailing, deliver cargo to the origin CFS before cut-off, then release documents to your despachante in Buenos Aires for clearance and inland delivery.
- Measure and weigh every wrapped pallet, to the outside edge, on a certified scale.
- Quote your exact volume and origin city at #quote-calc.
- Confirm the Incoterm with your supplier or buyer in writing.
- Book against a specific weekly sailing and note the CFS closing date.
- Deliver cargo to the origin CFS before cut-off, with ISPM-15 marks visible.
- Receive the B/L and check every field against the Factura Comercial.
- Release documents to your despachante de aduana in Buenos Aires.
- Clear and collect — pickup at the CFS or arrange inland delivery.
How the Incoterm changes your quote
Incoterms 2020 decide where our scope begins. EXW adds origin pickup from the supplier's dock. FOB starts at the port, which is what the port-to-port rates on this page reflect. DAP ends at the Argentine address; confirm with your despachante who handles import clearance and taxes.
DDP is rarely practical into Argentina. It puts the Argentine import formalities on the seller, which most foreign sellers are not set up to handle. Confirm with a licensed despachante de aduana before agreeing to DDP.
Inland delivery beyond Buenos Aires
Cargo bound for Córdoba, Rosario, Mendoza or Tucumán needs onward arrangements after it reaches Buenos Aires. Any depot transfer and the long-haul trucking are local Argentine costs billed separately. They are not AB Group Shipping freight, and your despachante or local carrier will quote them.
Why the final invoice can differ from the estimate
- Remeasurement at the CFS — the warehouse figure governs, not your declared figure.
- Non-stackable cargo — a NO-STACK mark can raise billed volume substantially.
- FX movement on peso-denominated destination charges.
- Storage accrued after free time expires at the Buenos Aires warehouse.
Insurance on consolidated cargo
Shared containers mean more handling, and more handling means more exposure. Buy cargo insurance on LCL. Remember that Customs may impute an insurance value into the CIF base anyway under Decreto 1026/1987 — so declining cover rarely saves you tax, and it always costs you protection.
Pro Tip
Send your despachante the draft Bill of Lading and Factura Comercial while the vessel is still at sea. Pre-reviewing the documents during a 14-day transit from Miami costs nothing. Discovering a description mismatch after arrival costs storage days at a bonded warehouse in Buenos Aires.

Enter your cubic meters, gross weight and origin city in the calculator on this page and compare LCL against a 20ft FCL for your exact load. No email required, no follow-up calls, and the price table updates itself as monthly rates move.
It depends on your origin gateway, total cubic meters, gross weight and whether the cargo is stackable, because consolidators bill the greater of volume or weight. Rates also move monthly with sailing capacity and fuel surcharges. Use the price table on this page, which updates itself, and the calculator at #quote-calc for your exact volume.
Multiply length by width by height in meters for each piece, then add the pieces together. Consolidators then compare that volume against your gross weight using the W/M revenue ton rule at their own weight-to-volume ratio, and bill whichever is greater, subject to their minimum charge.
Port-to-port ocean transit to Buenos Aires runs about 14 days from Miami and New Jersey and about 29 days from Houston. LCL adds origin consolidation time and CFS deconsolidation time in Argentina, so plan several extra days on each end before cargo is available for clearance.
LCL is usually cheaper below roughly 10 to 13 cubic meters, and a 20-foot FCL wins above that range. Dense or non-stackable cargo pushes the break-even lower, because LCL bills the greater of volume or weight. Compare both options in the calculator on this page.
Yes. Argentina's régimen general requires a licensed despachante de aduana, and the importer of record must meet ARCA's registration requirements. ARCA's courier regime exception does not apply to ocean LCL shipments, so arrange your despachante before the vessel arrives in Buenos Aires.
