Quick Answer: With AB Group Shipping, 100 kg of air cargo (0.6 m³) from Miami to Peru costs from $728 airport to airport (October 2026 quote) — about $7.28 per chargeable kilo. From Los Angeles, the same shipment starts at $1,046. Your rate per kilo depends on chargeable weight: the greater of actual or volumetric weight.
- Airlines bill chargeable weight, not actual weight: volume converted to volumetric kilos with the carrier's divisor. The higher of the two numbers sets your price per kilo.
- Price per kilo drops at the airline's break-weights. Splitting one 320 kg shipment into two air waybills usually costs more, not less.
- Peru charges ad valorem by tariff line, then 18% combined tax — IGV 15.5% + IPM 2.5% in 2026 under Ley 32387 — plus percepción del IGV, all calculated on the customs value (FOB + freight + insurance).
- The calculator on this page prices your exact origin, weight and dimensions in seconds, and the rate table under the opening answer updates itself every month.

Air Freight Calculator to Peru: How Much Is It Per Kilo in 2026?
Quick Answer: Air cargo from Miami to Peru starts at $728 for 100 kg at 0.6 m³, airport to airport, in our October 2026 quoting system — roughly $7.28 per chargeable kilo. From Los Angeles the same shipment starts at $1,046. Rates move monthly with fuel and capacity, so check the live table.
Those two numbers are live reference points, not averages. The price table under the opening answer updates itself every month, so it always shows the current figure for your lane.
The per-kilo math is simple. $728 ÷ 100 chargeable kilos = about $7.28 per kilo. That number falls as weight rises, because airlines price in break-weight brackets.
100 kg at 0.6 m³ from Miami, airport to airport. The same shipment from Los Angeles works out to about $10.46 per kilo. Longer stage length and different freighter capacity explain the gap.
Which US airport does your cargo actually leave from?
Your gateway sets your price. We ship from anywhere in the USA and Canada, but the cargo boards a plane at one specific terminal.
- Florida and the Southeast: Miami (MIA), the densest LatAm cargo hub in North America.
- California and the Southwest: Los Angeles (LAX).
- The Northeast: New York/New Jersey (JFK/EWR) — priced aprox. from the nearest listed origin.
- Texas, the Midwest and the central states: trucked or flown to the nearest hub, then priced aprox. from that listed origin.
Airport to airport means exactly that. The shipper delivers to the origin terminal, and the consignee collects at Jorge Chávez International Airport (LIM). Pickup, Lima delivery and SUNAT charges are quoted separately.
That is why a national average is useless. The calculadora flete aéreo a perú on this page prices your exact origin ZIP, weight and dimensions.
How do I calculate air freight cost to Peru?
Quick Answer: Calculate air freight to Peru in four steps: measure and weigh each piece, convert volume to volumetric kilos, take the higher of actual or volumetric weight as chargeable weight, then multiply by the break-weight rate and add surcharges, AWB fee and terminal handling at origin and in Lima.
- Measure every piece in centimeters, after packing, including the pallet.
- Weigh each piece on a calibrated scale to get gross actual weight.
- Convert volume to kilos: length × width × height in cm ÷ the carrier's volumetric divisor.
- Compare both figures and bill the higher one at the applicable rate.
Worked example: six cartons to Lima
Take 6 cartons, each 120 × 80 × 60 cm, each weighing 22 kg.
- Actual gross weight: 6 × 22 kg = 132 kg
- Volume per carton: 576,000 cm³ = 0.576 m³ · total 3.456 m³
- Volumetric weight, assuming a 6,000 divisor for illustration only (confirm your carrier's): 576,000 ÷ 6,000 = 96 kg per carton = 576 kg total
- Chargeable weight: 576 kg, not 132 kg
You pay for 576 kilos. The scale never enters the invoice. This single mistake causes most of the disputes we see on the cotizar carga aérea USA Perú searches that land on this page.
Why a lighter shipment sometimes gets billed at a higher weight
Airlines quote in weight brackets. The rate per kilo drops at each step.
So a weight just under a break-point can cost more than the break-point weight at the lower rate. A good forwarder rounds the weight up and charges you less. Splitting one shipment across two air waybills does the opposite — it drops you into a worse bracket twice.
Pro Tip
Declared dimensions are verified. Terminals can measure cargo at acceptance. A 2 cm pallet overhang re-rates the whole shipment, and the re-rate hits after the cargo has already flown. Measure the loaded pallet, not the boxes.
An "all-in" quote is fine, as long as you know what it legitimately excludes: ad valorem duty, IGV, IPM, percepción and terminal storage in Lima. No forwarder can quote those as a fixed number, because they depend on your tariff line and your clearance speed. Moving a household instead of commercial cargo? What is volumetric weight and how is it calculated for air cargo?
Quick Answer: Volumetric weight is the space your cargo occupies expressed in kilos. For air cargo, divide volume in cubic centimeters by the carrier's volumetric divisor. Express couriers may use a different divisor, so confirm it with each quote.
Chargeable weight — peso facturable — is the greater of gross actual weight and volumetric weight, rounded up under the carrier's rules. That is the only number the airline cares about.
The two divisors, side by side
Take one box measuring 60 × 40 × 40 cm, or 96,000 cm³. Air cargo carriers and express couriers each divide that volume by their own divisor, and the divisors are not always the same, so the same box can carry a different billable weight on a courier bill than on an air waybill. Ask for the divisor in writing with every quote. Anything light for its size pays on volume — that is the peso volumétrico carga aérea rule.
Dense cargo versus light cargo
Auto parts in a wooden crate — brake discs, gearbox housings, bearings — are usually dense for their size. They bill on actual weight, and air freight competes well on them.
Lighting fixtures, apparel, plastic housings and packaging materials run far below that density. They bill on volume, and the tarifa por kilo Lima you were quoted suddenly applies to three times the weight you expected.
Void height is money
On a standard 1.2 × 1 m pallet, every 10 cm of empty stack height adds 120,000 cm³ of billable volume. Re-palletizing to remove two layers of void on a four-pallet shipment can cut a significant number of chargeable kilos. Shrink-wrap tight and cap the stack flat.
What does your price per kilo to Lima actually include?
Quick Answer: An air freight rate per kilo to Lima covers the base airline rate plus the fuel surcharge (FSC) and security surcharge (SSC). Added separately: the air waybill fee, origin terminal handling, TSA screening, and in Lima the ground handler's charges, storage after free time, and SUNAT clearance.
The fuel surcharge (FSC) is an add-on set by each carrier; ask for the current figure with your quote. The security surcharge (SSC) is a smaller per-kilo charge covering mandated cargo screening.
What the Air Waybill is and why it matters
The Air Waybill (guía aérea) is the airline's contract of carriage and receipt of goods. It shows shipper, consignee, piece count, gross weight, chargeable weight, nature of goods and declared value.
A master AWB (MAWB) is issued by the airline to the consolidator. A house AWB (HAWB) is issued by the forwarder to you, inside that consolidation. Your HAWB is what the customs agent in Lima works from.
Origin side charges
Terminal handling at the departure airport, TSA-equivalent screening, the AWB issuance fee, dangerous goods documentation if applicable, and pickup trucking if you are not delivering to the terminal yourself. These are billed per shipment and per kilo, not bundled into the airline rate.
Lima side charges
Ground handler terminal fees at Jorge Chávez, document handling, almacenaje (storage) once free time expires, and the customs agent's fee for a full import declaration. Duties and taxes are separate again, and they are paid to SUNAT, not to the forwarder.
Cargo insurance deserves its own line. Under the Montreal Convention, carrier liability is capped at a limited amount per kilo of cargo lost or damaged. That cap has nothing to do with the value of your goods. All-risk cargo insurance priced on CIF value is the only real protection for electronics, machinery parts or branded goods.
Classification changes your landed cost, not your freight. The same logic we walk through in Importing Auto Parts from USA to Guatemala: Full Guide applies line by line in Peru.

Go to the calculator →How much tax do I pay when importing goods into Peru?
Quick Answer: Peru charges ad valorem duty, which depends on the tariff line, plus a combined 18% tax split in 2026 as IGV 15.5% and IPM 2.5% under Ley 32387, plus percepción del IGV. All of it is calculated on the customs value — FOB plus international freight plus insurance, as determined by SUNAT.
Start with the base. Customs value = FOB + international freight + insurance, as determined by SUNAT. Air freight is higher than ocean freight, so air inflates your tax base as well as your transport bill.

| Year | IGV | IPM | Combined |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026 | 15.5% | 2.5% | 18% |
| 2027 | 15.0% | 3.0% | 18% |
| 2028 | 14.5% | 3.5% | 18% |
| 2029 | 14.0% | 4.0% | 18% |
Source: Ley 32387; SUNAT · October 2026
Percepción del IGV also applies to imports (SUNAT, Guía de Beneficios al retorno al Perú, 12 Feb 2025). It is an advance payment, not an extra tax, but it affects your cash flow at clearance. Confirm the current rate and your own situation with a licensed customs agent before you buy.
Worked example (illustration only, not a quote)
- Commercial invoice FOB: $9,000
- Air freight from the calculator: $728 (Miami, 100 kg / 0.6 m³, Oct 2026)
- Insurance: as policy, say $120
- Customs value = $9,848
- Ad valorem: apply the rate for your tariff line to $9,848
- Then apply 18% (IGV 15.5% + IPM 2.5%) to customs value + ad valorem
- Then percepción del IGV, as assessed by SUNAT
This shows the method. The ad valorem rate depends on the tariff line, and only a licensed customs agent can confirm yours.
Household goods follow a different rule
Under the general regime, menaje de casa pays a single tax of 12% on the customs value — FOB plus international freight and insurance as determined by SUNAT (DS 182-2013-EF; SUNAT). It has no value cap and it is not an exemption. Vehicles of any kind, boats, aircraft and their parts or spares are excluded from the regime (DS 182-2013-EF art. 4). Planning a move? Go to the calculator →Which SUNAT regime applies to your air shipment?
Quick Answer: SUNAT handles air imports under three main paths: Envíos de Entrega Rápida (courier, FOB up to US$2,000), the simplified import procedure DESPA-PE.01.01, and Importación para el Consumo under DESPA-PG.01, which requires a DAM declaration and the consignee's RUC. The right path depends on value, goods and who the importer is.
| Regime | Published limit | ID required | Typical use case |
|---|---|---|---|
| Courier / Envíos de Entrega Rápida | FOB up to US$2,000 per shipment | DNI, PTP, carné de extranjería or safe-conduct — within annual limits | Samples, parts, documents, small e-commerce orders |
| Despacho Simplificado (DESPA-PE.01.01) | Confirm with a licensed customs agent | Confirm with a licensed customs agent | Low-value imports outside the courier channel |
| Importación para el Consumo (DESPA-PG.01) | No published ceiling | Consignee's RUC + DAM declaration | Commercial cargo, machinery, inventory |
On the courier side, SUNAT publishes a clear rule: an invoice, equivalent document or contract is required only when the goods were bought internationally, and no packing list is listed (SUNAT, Envíos de Entrega Rápida - Courier, checked Nov 2026).
Individuals get a limited runway. A DNI, PTP, carné de extranjería or safe-conduct pass covers up to 3 imports a year at no more than US$1,000 FOB each, or 1 a year between US$1,000 and US$2,000. Beyond that, or for commercial goods, SUNAT requires a RUC.
For a full import, SUNAT requires the DAM declaration and the RUC, plus a certificate of origin to claim trade-agreement preference (SUNAT – Instituto Aduanero y Tributario, Curso Básico de Aduanas, 2023). The simplified procedure DESPA-PE.01.01 was last amended on 5 October 2026 (RS 0129-2026/SUNAT).
Restricted goods need a control document before arrival
Refrigerators and air conditioners are restricted as ozone-depleting-substance equipment and need a control document from the DGAA of PRODUCE (SUNAT Asistente Aduanero). Animals, plants, seeds and their derivatives need SENASA authorization. Firearms and ammunition need prior SUCAMEC authorization. For any other category, confirm the authorizing entity with us or with a licensed customs agent before you ship.

Which Incoterm 2020 should you use for air shipments to Peru?
Quick Answer: For air freight to Peru, FCA and CPT are the clean choices: FCA hands over at the origin airport, CPT includes the main carriage to Lima. DDP pushes Peruvian duty, IGV and IPM liability back onto the seller.
| Incoterm | Origin handling | Main carriage to LIM | Insurance | SUNAT duties & taxes | Delivery in Lima |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| EXW | Buyer | Buyer | Buyer | Buyer | Buyer |
| FCA | Seller | Buyer | Buyer | Buyer | Buyer |
| CPT | Seller | Seller | Buyer | Buyer | Buyer |
| CIP | Seller | Seller | Seller | Buyer | Buyer |
| DAP | Seller | Seller | Seller's choice | Buyer | Seller |
| DDP | Seller | Seller | Seller's choice | Seller | Seller |
The most common error on this lane: writing "FOB Miami" on an air shipment. Confirm with a licensed customs agent that the Incoterm fits air transport. A term that does not fit the mode can leave origin handling and screening charges unassigned, and the argument surfaces after the cargo flies.
Insurance obligations under CIP and CIF are not identical. Write the cover level you need into the purchase order rather than relying on the default.
Why DDP tempts Peruvian buyers
One number, no surprises, the seller absorbs everything. It reads like the safest option on a purchase order, especially for a first import.
Why most US sellers cannot deliver it
DDP makes the seller responsible for Peruvian import taxes. Paying IGV and percepción runs through Peruvian clearance procedures that a US exporter may not be set up for; confirm it with a licensed customs agent before agreeing to DDP. Otherwise the shipment can stall at Jorge Chávez while storage accrues.
One more consequence buyers miss: the Incoterm determines the FOB figure SUNAT uses inside the customs value. Change the term, and you change the tax base, not only the freight invoice.
How many days does air freight take from Miami to Lima?
Quick Answer: Air freight from Miami to Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima flies in 1-2 days, with daily widebody and freighter capacity. Add 1-3 business days for booking, screening and terminal cut-off at origin, plus SUNAT clearance in Lima, which depends on the control channel your declaration draws.
| Origin | Flying time to LIM | Routing | Add before departure |
|---|---|---|---|
| Miami (MIA) | 1–2 days | Direct, daily capacity | 1–3 business days |
| New York / New Jersey (JFK/EWR) | 1–3 days | Usually one connection | 1–3 business days |
| Los Angeles (LAX) | 1–3 days | Usually one connection | 1–3 business days |
| Interior US cities | +1–2 days | Trucking to the gateway airport | 1–3 business days |
These are flying times, not door-to-door promises. Three clocks run at once, and buyers confuse them constantly.
- Terminal acceptance: the last moment the handler will take your cargo.
- Airline cut-off: the last moment cargo can be assigned to that flight.
- Departure: when the aircraft leaves — cargo tendered after cut-off rolls to the next flight even though the plane departs on time.
In Lima, clearance speed depends on the control channel. SUNAT assigns green (direct release), orange (document review) or red (physical inspection) — see SUNAT, Asignación del canal de control, checked November 2026. Machinery imports in particular draw physical inspection under the Importación para el Consumo procedure DESPA-PG.01 (Versión 8, 2020).
Storage, not freight, blows up Peru air budgets
Almacenaje at the Lima terminal starts billing once free time ends, and it compounds daily. Have the customs agent appointed, the RUC confirmed and the invoice issued before the flight lands, not after. A two-day paperwork delay on a 600 kg shipment can cost more than the rate difference between two carriers.
Delivery beyond Lima — Arequipa, Trujillo, Chiclayo, Cusco, Piura — moves by domestic truck or domestic air and is quoted separately. One more detail worth getting right: LIM is the airport serving Lima; the seaport is Callao (UN/LOCODE PECLL), while Lima's own code is PELIM. Different nodes, different charges. For a regional transit benchmark, compare Shipping Times USA to El Salvador 2026: 1-25 Days.
Air freight vs ocean LCL vs courier to Peru: which should you choose?
Quick Answer: Air freight wins under about 300-500 kg or when the cargo is urgent and high-value. Ocean LCL wins on dense, bulky cargo above roughly 1 cubic meter, trading cost for weeks of transit. International courier wins for small parcels and documents inside the SUNAT courier regime.
| Mode | Billing unit | Transit to Peru | Weight sweet spot | Best use case |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Air cargo | Chargeable kg | 1–3 days flying | 45–500 kg, dense | Urgent, high-value, spare parts |
| Ocean LCL | CBM or revenue ton | Weeks, port to port | 1 m³ and up | Bulky, low-density, planned inventory |
| International courier | Chargeable kg | 2–5 days door to door | Under 45 kg | Documents, samples, FOB under US$2,000 |

When air stops competing
Air bills light cargo on volumetric weight. LCL bills the cubic meter itself. Once your cargo is light for its size and your volume climbs past a cubic meter or two, ocean wins by a wide margin, every time.
The tax side nobody mentions
Customs value includes freight. Ocean freight is lower, so the same goods arriving by sea produce a smaller 18% tax base than the same goods arriving by air. Slower transit trims the duty bill slightly as well.
Industry rate guidance confirms the same structure across lanes — see this Transporte Aéreo de Carga: Guía de Tarifas y Costes 2026. To see how per-CBM ocean pricing behaves in practice, read LCL Shipping USA to Guatemala 2026: Instant Quotes.

Chargeable weight is the greater of your cargo's actual gross weight and its volumetric weight, and it is the number the airline bills. Volumetric weight for air cargo is volume in cubic centimeters divided by the carrier's volumetric divisor. Light, bulky cargo almost always pays on volume, not on the scale.
You pay ad valorem duty, which depends on your tariff line, plus a combined 18% tax — split in 2026 as IGV 15.5% and IPM 2.5% under Ley 32387 — plus percepción del IGV. All of it is calculated on the customs value, meaning FOB plus international freight plus insurance as determined by SUNAT. Confirm your specific tariff line with a licensed customs agent before you buy.
Air freight from Miami to Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima flies in 1 to 2 days. Add time for booking, screening and the airline's terminal cut-off at origin, then SUNAT clearance in Lima, which varies with the control channel assigned: green releases directly, orange means document review and red means physical inspection.
Yes for commercial imports — SUNAT requires the consignee's RUC and a DAM declaration under the Importación para el Consumo procedure. Individuals may instead use a DNI, PTP, carné de extranjería or safe-conduct pass under the courier regime, but only for up to 3 imports a year at no more than US$1,000 FOB each, or 1 a year between US$1,000 and US$2,000.
No for most cargo. Air cargo bills light cargo on volumetric weight, so anything bulky or low-density costs far more by air than by sea, and air freight also raises the customs value SUNAT taxes at 18%. Air wins on small, dense, urgent or high-value shipments. Use the calculator on this page to compare both for your exact dimensions.
