What Is Consolidated (LCL) Cargo to Peru, and How Is It Different from FCL, Air and Courier?

Quick Answer: Consolidated cargo, or LCL (Less than Container Load), means your pallets share one container with other shippers' cargo. You pay only for the space you use, measured in cubic meters. It usually beats courier once a shipment outgrows parcel size, and beats a full container until your volume approaches a large share of one; compare both for your exact volume.

Your freight is received at an origin CFS warehouse (Container Freight Station). There it is measured, weighed and loaded into a shared 40' container with other shippers' boxes. The container sails to Callao, where an agent deconsolidates the cargo and releases each house bill of lading separately.

That shared model is why LCL is cheap for small volumes. It is also why LCL has more handling touchpoints than FCL. Each touchpoint adds a day and a fee.

LCL (consolidated)

You buy space, not a box. A 2 m³ shipment pays for 2 m³, not for a whole container. The trade-off is handling: your pallet is loaded, stuffed, stripped and stored with other people's cargo. Expect extra days at both CFS warehouses and more exposure to shared-container damage. Best for repeat small orders, samples, e-commerce restocks and trade-show equipment.

FCL (full container)

You buy the whole box and it stays sealed from origin to Callao. Nobody else's cargo touches yours, and there is no deconsolidation fee. Per cubic meter it only makes sense once you fill enough of the container — compare FCL and LCL quotes for your exact volume.

Four Ways to Move Cargo to Peru

ModeUnit of chargeMinimumTypical transit (port to port)Best use case
LCL consolidatedPer m³ or per 1,000 kg (W/M)Consolidator minimum14–27 days + CFS daysSmaller commercial shipments
FCL 20'Flat rate per containerNone (you buy the box)14–27 daysLarger volumes, sealed cargo
Air freightPer kg (chargeable weight)45–100 kg typical2–6 daysUrgent, high-value, low-density
Courier (entrega rápida)Per kg, door to doorNone3–8 daysDocuments, parcels under US$2,000 FOB

Courier has a legal ceiling in Peru. SUNAT's envíos de entrega rápida regime covers shipments up to US$2,000 FOB. Individuals may clear with a DNI for up to three imports a year at no more than US$1,000 FOB each, or one a year between US$1,000 and US$2,000 (SUNAT, Envíos de Entrega Rápida – Courier, checked 2026). Beyond that, or for commercial goods, a RUC is required.

How Do I Calculate the CBM of My Shipment to Peru?

Quick Answer: Multiply length × width × height in meters for each piece, then add the pieces together. A pallet of 1.2 m × 1.0 m × 1.4 m equals 1.68 m³. Measure the outside of the packaging, including the pallet base, and round up to two decimals — consolidators bill the outer dimensions.

US shippers measure in inches. The conversion matters, because a wrong unit turns a 1 m³ booking into a 3 m³ invoice. Use whichever formula matches your tape measure.

  • Meters: L × W × H = m³. A 1.2 × 1.0 × 1.4 pallet = 1.68 m³.
  • Centimeters: (L × W × H) ÷ 1,000,000. A 60 × 40 × 50 cm carton = 0.12 m³.
  • Inches: (L × W × H) ÷ 61,024. A 48 × 40 × 55 in pallet = 1.73 m³.

A Worked Example You Can Copy

Say you ship one standard pallet plus a stack of cartons from Houston. The pallet measures 48 × 40 × 55 inches including the wood base and shrink-wrap. That is 105,600 ÷ 61,024 = 1.73 m³.

You also ship 12 cartons at 60 × 40 × 50 cm each. Each carton is 0.12 m³, so 12 cartons equal 1.44 m³. Total shipment volume: 1.73 + 1.44 = 3.17 m³.

What Is the W/M Rule, and Why Does It Bill More Than You Expect?

LCL consolidators charge by weight or measure. The unit is a revenue ton: either 1 cubic meter or 1,000 kilograms, whichever is greater. Dense cargo bills on weight, light cargo bills on volume.

  • 400 kg packed into 1.2 m³ bills as 1.2 revenue tons (volume wins).
  • 1,500 kg packed into 0.8 m³ bills as 1.5 revenue tons (weight wins).
  • A 0.35 m³ box of ceramic tile still bills as 1 revenue ton — the minimum applies.

Consolidators apply a minimum charge, and rounding rules vary — check both on your quote. Below 1 m³, compare the LCL number against air freight and courier before booking.

💡

Pro Tip

Shrink-wrap and pallet height quietly add 10–15 cm of billable space. Two half-height pallets at 0.9 m each bill as two separate footprints. Restack them into one 1.6 m pallet and you can cut a full revenue ton off the invoice. The CFS measures the outer silhouette — overhang counts too.

How Much Does It Cost to Ship Consolidated Cargo to Peru per Cubic Meter?

Quick Answer: With AB Group Shipping, 2 m³ / 500 kg port to port from Miami to Callao starts at $448 (October 2026 quote). Rates move every month with space, fuel and peak-season surcharges, so the price table under the quick answer updates itself and the calculator prices your exact volume and origin.

That $448 figure is a port-to-port number. It means you deliver the cargo to the departure gateway and collect it at Callao. Peruvian destination charges, duties and last-mile delivery are separate, and they are not AB Group Shipping freight.

Which Gateway Does Your Region Ship Through?

Price and transit both depend on the departure port. We load from anywhere in the USA and Canada, but your region usually routes through one gateway.

  • Florida → PortMiami
  • Texas and the central states → Port Houston
  • California and the Southwest → Los Angeles / Long Beach
  • The Northeast → Port of New York and New Jersey
  • The Southeast → Savannah
  • The Midwest → rail to a coastal gateway via Chicago
  • The Pacific Northwest → Seattle

$4482 m³ Miami → Callao, Oct 2026

Port to port, from. The per-cubic-meter cost drops as volume rises, because fixed costs — CFS handling, documentation, the house bill of lading — spread across more cubic meters. A 1 m³ booking carries the same paperwork fee as a 10 m³ booking.

That fixed-cost spread is the whole economics of a calculadora carga consolidada a perú. At 1 m³, documentation can be a third of your bill. At 8 m³, it is a rounding error. Comparing the Pacific and Caribbean lanes? See our LCL shipping to Colombia calculator with price per CBM for 2026.

How Does the Consolidated Cargo to Peru Calculator Work?

Quick Answer: The calculator on this page asks for your origin city or ZIP, destination (Callao or inland Peru), total cubic meters, gross weight and cargo type. It returns a port-to-port LCL price, the chargeable volume after W/M and minimums, and an estimated transit — in seconds, with no signup.

What You Enter

  1. Enter your origin city or ZIP code. This decides your gateway and your domestic leg.
  2. List each piece with its outer dimensions. Include the pallet base and the wrap.
  3. Add gross weight, not net weight. Gross includes packaging, pallet and dunnage.
  4. Describe the commodity in plain words. "Cotton T-shirts" beats "textiles."
  5. Flag whether the cargo is stackable, oversized or hazardous.

What You Get Back

The output shows chargeable revenue tons after the W/M rule, the freight figure, an estimated transit window, and the gateway your region routes through. A 0.6 m³ entry will come back as 1 revenue ton, because the minimum applies.

⚠️

The calculator prices freight, not landed cost

It does not include Peruvian ad valorem duty, IGV, IPM, percepción del IGV, terminal handling at Callao, deconsolidation, storage or inland trucking. Those are separate, and most of them are terminal or agent charges rather than freight. Budget them before you commit to a purchase order.

Some cargo cannot be auto-priced. Dangerous goods, out-of-gauge pieces, breakbulk and project cargo, and vehicles all route to a custom quote request at the same anchor on this page. A specialist prices those by hand after the request lands.

One operational warning from the CFS floor: an estimate built on guessed dimensions gets re-rated after the warehouse re-measures your pallet. Measure first, then quote. A 10 cm miss on a tall pallet can push you over a revenue-ton boundary.

What Taxes Do I Pay When Importing Consolidated Cargo into Peru?

Quick Answer: Peru taxes imports on the CIF value — goods plus international freight plus insurance. On top of that sits ad valorem duty, which depends on the tariff line, plus IGV 15.5% and IPM 2.5%, a combined 18% in 2026 under Ley 32387, plus percepción del IGV as an advance payment.

Start with the base. Per SUNAT (Tributos que gravan la Importación), Peru's import taxes are calculated on the CIF value, comprising the goods value, international freight and insurance. Cheap goods with expensive freight still produce a large tax base.

Ad Valorem Duty Depends on Your Tariff Line

Ad valorem is set by the partida arancelaria — your HS classification. There is no single national rate to quote. Confirm your classification with a licensed customs agent before you buy, not after the container sails.

Misclassification is the most expensive mistake on this lane. It can also trigger an orange or red channel review at Callao.

What Is Percepción del IGV?

Percepción del IGV is an advance payment on imports, not an extra tax. SUNAT confirms it can later be credited against your sales IGV (SUNAT, Preguntas Frecuentes – Percepciones – Importación). It still hits your cash flow at clearance.

The applicable rate depends on the importer's situation. Confirm yours with us or with a licensed customs agent before you plan the cash.

⚠️

Moving a household? Different regime

Under the general regime, menaje de casa pays a single tax of 12% on the customs value — FOB plus international freight and insurance, as determined by SUNAT (DS 182-2013-EF; SUNAT official menaje de casa page). It has no value cap and is not an exemption. Vehicles of any kind, boats, aircraft and their parts or spares are excluded (DS 182-2013-EF art. 4). Seeds, plants, animals and their derivatives are excluded unless the competent body authorizes them — SENASA for animals.

What Does the Full Landed Cost to Callao Actually Look Like?

Quick Answer: Landed cost = CIF value + ad valorem + 18% IGV/IPM + percepción + Callao destination charges + customs agent + last mile. Freight is usually the smallest line once taxes are added. Build the stack in that order, because every tax in Peru is calculated on the CIF value, not on the invoice alone.

The Stack, in Order

  1. Start with the FOB goods value from your supplier's invoice.
  2. Add international freight and insurance. That total is your CIF value.
  3. Apply ad valorem duty at your tariff line, on the CIF value.
  4. Apply IGV 15.5% and IPM 2.5% on CIF plus duty.
  5. Add percepción del IGV as an advance payment at clearance.
  6. Add Callao destination charges, the customs agent fee and inland delivery.

A Worked Example (Illustration, Not a Quote)

Take a commercial shipment of 2 m³ / 500 kg from Miami. Goods value is $6,000. Freight is $448 (October 2026 quote, port to port). Assume insurance of $60 for the example.

CIF = 6,000 + 448 + 60 = $6,508. Now apply duty. At a hypothetical 6% ad valorem for the reader's tariff line, duty = $390.48. That gives a taxable base of 6,508 + 390.48 = $6,898.48.

IGV at 15.5% = $1,069.26. IPM at 2.5% = $172.46. Combined 18% = $1,241.72. Total taxes in this example: $1,632.20.

Freight is $448 of a $8,140 pre-destination total. Taxes are nearly four times the freight. That ratio is normal, and it is why buyers who shop freight alone lose money.

18%IGV + IPM on CIF plus duty (2026)

Per Ley 32387 and SUNAT, the combined rate is 18% in 2026, split 15.5% IGV plus 2.5% IPM. Model it before you sign a purchase order, alongside the percepción cash-flow hit at clearance.

Small Shipment vs Large Shipment

At 1 m³, the minimum charge applies and per-m³ freight is at its worst. But taxes still dominate the bill if the goods are valuable. A 1 m³ box of electronics can carry a tax bill ten times its freight.

At 10 m³, per-m³ freight drops sharply and duty becomes the main variable. At that point, run the FCL comparison too — the gap narrows fast.

Costs That Are Not ABGS Freight

  • Terminal handling at DP World Callao or APM Terminals
  • Desconsolidación (deconsolidation) at the destination CFS
  • Almacenaje (storage) once free time expires
  • Visto bueno and gate-out charges
  • Customs agent fees and the DAM filing
  • Inland trucking to Lima, Arequipa or Trujillo

How Long Does Consolidated Cargo Take from the USA to Callao?

Quick Answer: Ocean transit port to port runs about 14 days from Los Angeles, 18 from New Jersey, 19 from Miami and 27 from Houston. Consolidated cargo adds cut-off and CFS consolidation days before sailing, plus deconsolidation and clearance days at Callao, so plan a realistic door-to-door window.

Savannah, Seattle, Chicago (by rail) and any inland city use the nearest listed gateway's transit, written as approx. with the port the cargo leaves from. A Chicago shipper routes by rail and then prices approx. off the coastal gateway the booking uses.

The Three Clocks Nobody Tells You About

First, the CFS cargo cut-off. Your pallet must reach the warehouse by the consolidator's cut-off, which falls days before the vessel's ETD, because the consolidator needs time to stuff the box.

Second, port cut-off is not vessel ETD. The terminal stops receiving before the ship sails. Miss the port cut-off by two hours and you roll to the next sailing.

Third, deconsolidation at Callao. The container is stripped before your cargo is available for clearance. That is extra days on top of the ocean transit.

💡

Pro Tip

Callao (PECLL) is the seaport serving Lima; Lima's own UN/LOCODE is PELIM, so a booking marked "Lima (PECLL)" mislabels the code (UNECE UN/LOCODE – Peru). Chancay is a newer Pacific gateway worth checking on some services. Always confirm the discharge port on the bill of lading before the vessel sails.

Which Incoterm Are You Buying On, and How Does It Change the Calculation?

Quick Answer: Your Incoterm decides which costs the calculator must add. On EXW you add origin pickup, export handling and freight. On FOB you add freight and insurance only. On CIF the freight is already in the invoice — and so is its tax, because Peru taxes the CIF value. DDP shifts import liability to the seller.

DAPSellerSellerBuyerDuties, taxes, clearance
DDPSellerSellerSellerNothing — seller carries import liability

The Peru Nuance Most Buyers Miss

Because SUNAT taxes the CIF value, a cheap FOB price with expensive freight raises your tax base. Two suppliers can quote the same landed goods cost and produce different tax bills. Compare landed cost, never unit price alone.

DDP looks clean on paper. It also exposes the seller to Peruvian import-side liability — percepción, tariff-classification disputes and any SUNAT valuation adjustment. Most overseas suppliers price that risk into the number, or walk away from it mid-shipment.

EXW Traps on US Domestic Pickup

  • Inland trucking from the supplier's dock to the CFS warehouse
  • Liftgate and residential pickup surcharges
  • CFS cut-off timing — a late pickup means a rolled sailing
  • Export documentation the supplier assumed you would handle

One more document matters. Per SUNAT's Instituto Aduanero y Tributario, a certificado de origen is required to claim trade-agreement preference. Without it, you pay the full ad valorem rate even when a preference exists.

SUNAT Clearance, Callao Destination Charges and How to Verify a Quote

Quick Answer: SUNAT requires a DAM declaration and the consignee's RUC for commercial imports, then assigns a control channel: green for direct release, orange for document review, red for physical inspection. The channel is assigned by SUNAT and cannot be negotiated, so build inspection days into your schedule.

Clearance runs on two pillars: the DAM declaration and the consignee's RUC (SUNAT, Procedimiento General DESPA-PG.01, Versión 8, 2020). Without a valid RUC, a commercial import cannot be declared.

Then the channel is assigned. Green releases directly. Orange triggers document review. Red triggers physical inspection. SUNAT assigns it and it cannot be negotiated (SUNAT, Asignación del Canal de Control, checked 2026).

Despacho anticipado helps. With the DAM numbered before arrival, release moves faster — SUNAT notes that a green-channel air shipment can be released the same day it lands. Ocean LCL still needs deconsolidation first.

Destination Charges Checklist at Callao

  • THC / DTHC — terminal handling at DP World Callao or APM Terminals
  • Desconsolidación — stripping the shared container
  • Almacenaje — storage after free time runs out
  • Visto bueno — carrier release endorsement
  • Gate out — removing cargo from the terminal
  • Demurrage and detention — the clock that punishes slow clearance

These are terminal and agent charges, not AB Group Shipping freight. We will not invent a figure for them. Ask your Peruvian customs agent for a written destination tariff before the vessel arrives.

⚠️

Four calculator errors that blow up a budget

Measuring inner carton dimensions instead of outer. Forgetting pallet height and shrink-wrap. Entering net weight instead of gross. And assuming the freight number includes Peruvian duties — it never does. Any one of these can move a quote by a full revenue ton or several hundred dollars in tax.

How to Verify Any LCL Quote

  • Is it all-in or itemized? Itemized quotes hide less.
  • Which Incoterm does it assume — EXW, FOB or CIF?
  • Does it price actual volume or chargeable volume after W/M?
  • Has the minimum charge already been applied?
  • Does it include origin CFS handling and the house bill of lading?

Where LCL Stops Winning

LCL normally stops winning as your volume approaches a large share of a container. Past that point a 20' FCL is usually cheaper per cubic meter, and it skips deconsolidation handling at Callao entirely. Our breakdown of the USA–Latin America FCL vs LCL 10 CBM breakpoint walks through the arithmetic.

One boundary to respect. For tariff classification, restricted goods and eligibility questions, confirm with us or with a licensed customs agent before you buy or ship. Refrigerators and air conditioners, for example, are restricted goods under ozone-depleting-substance rules and need a control document from the DGAA of PRODUCE (SUNAT Asistente Aduanero). AB Group Shipping is a freight forwarder, not legal counsel.

Run your real numbers before you commit to a supplier. Enter your ZIP, your pieces and your gross weight into the calculadora carga consolidada a perú on this page, and you get a port-to-port LCL price, chargeable volume after the W/M rule and an estimated transit in seconds — no email, no follow-up calls. Then compare the same cargo as FCL, air and courier in the same tool, and model the 18% IGV/IPM on top before you sign anything. With thousands of shipments processed across the USA–Latin America corridor, we would rather you see the full cost now than at the Callao gate.

How do I calculate the CBM of my shipment to Peru?+

Multiply length × width × height in meters for each piece and add them up — a 1.2 m × 1.0 m × 1.4 m pallet is 1.68 m³. Measure the outside of the packaging, including the pallet base and shrink-wrap, because the consolidator bills outer dimensions. Consolidators apply a minimum charge, so confirm it on your quote.

What taxes do I pay when importing consolidated cargo into Peru?+

You pay ad valorem duty, which depends on your tariff line, plus IGV 15.5% and IPM 2.5% — a combined 18% in 2026 under Ley 32387 — all calculated on the CIF value of goods, freight and insurance. SUNAT also applies percepción del IGV, an advance payment you can later credit against your sales IGV. Confirm your classification with a licensed customs agent.

How long does consolidated cargo take from the USA to Callao?+

Ocean transit port to port is about 14 days from Los Angeles, 18 from New Jersey, 19 from Miami and 27 from Houston. Consolidated cargo adds CFS consolidation days before the vessel sails and deconsolidation plus clearance days at Callao. Inland US origins route through the nearest gateway, so add the domestic leg to that window.

Is consolidated cargo cheaper than a full container for importing into Peru?+

Yes, for smaller volumes. You pay only for the space you use, so LCL usually wins on small shipments. As your volume approaches a large share of a container, a 20' full container normally costs less per cubic meter and avoids deconsolidation handling at Callao — run both options in the calculator on this page before deciding.

Do I need a RUC to import consolidated cargo into Peru?+

Yes for commercial imports — SUNAT requires the consignee's RUC on the DAM declaration. Individuals can use a DNI only inside the courier regime limits: up to three imports a year at no more than US$1,000 FOB each, or one a year between US$1,000 and US$2,000. Above those thresholds, or for commercial goods, a RUC is required.
