  • Door-to-door transit to Lima = pickup + US export handling + flight or sailing + SUNAT clearance + domestic delivery. Each stage has its own day count.
  • Ocean port to port to Callao: Los Angeles 14 days, New Jersey 18, Miami 19, Houston 27 (AB Group schedules quoted October 2026). Consolidated cargo, 2 m³ / 500 kg from Miami started at $448 that month.
  • SUNAT assigns canal verde, naranja or rojo on arrival; the channel cannot be negotiated, and red-channel inspections are the single biggest swing in your delivery date.
  • Delivery outside Lima adds 1-5 days: Arequipa and Trujillo 1-2, Cusco and Puno 2-4, Iquitos 3-5, usually by air or river.

Transit days stay fairly stable month to month, but rates move. The price table under this opening answer updates itself, so treat the day counts here as planning numbers and the table as the live figure.

Shipping from another state? Which port to read

Each port in the table is the one that cargo from these states usually leaves through. Miami: Florida. Houston: Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, New Mexico, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska. New Jersey: New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, District of Columbia and West Virginia. Los Angeles: California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah and Hawaii. Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky and Alabama ship through Savannah; Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota and South Dakota ship through Chicago (rail); Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and Alaska ship through Seattle / Tacoma: those ports are not in the table yet. How long does it take to ship a package from the USA to Peru?

Quick Answer: Shipping from the USA to Peru takes 3-7 business days by express courier, 5-9 days by air freight, and 14-27 days port to port by ocean. Express suits documents and small parcels. Ocean moves pallets and containers. Your US gateway and the SUNAT control channel decide the final date.

Mode choice drives almost everything. Weight and volume push you from one mode to the next, and each jump changes the clock by days or weeks.

ModeTransit daysTypical weight breakBilling unitBest use case
Express courier3-7 business daysUnder 70 kgChargeable kgSamples, documents, e-commerce parcels
Air freight5-9 days70-300 kgChargeable kgReplenishment, high-value, urgent SKUs
LCL ocean14-27 days port to port300 kg to ~10 CBMCBM or weightPallets, mixed inventory, slow movers
FCL ocean14-27 days port to portAbove ~10 CBMPer containerFull loads, best cost per CBM

Those weight breaks match what US e-commerce sellers actually hit. Under 70 kg, courier usually wins on total landed speed and paperwork. Between 70 and 300 kg, consolidated air freight gets cheaper per kilo fast.

Above 300 kg or several pallets, LCL takes over. Past roughly 10 CBM, a 20' container beats LCL on cost per cubic meter, and it skips two handling stages.

14-27Ocean days to Callao

Port-to-port range across AB Group's four main US gateways in October 2026. Los Angeles sits at the fast end, Houston at the slow end.

Port to port is not door to door. The AB Group ocean day counts above cover the ocean leg only. The customer brings the cargo to the departure port and collects it at Callao. Pickup, Peruvian destination charges and inland delivery sit outside that number.

⚠️

Callao is PECLL, not PELIM

Callao is the seaport that serves Lima. Under the UNECE UN/LOCODE list for Peru, PECLL is Callao and PELIM is Lima. Writing "Lima (PECLL)" on a booking or B/L mislabels the code and causes avoidable corrections at the terminal.

What is a shipping time to Peru calculator and how does it work?

Quick Answer: A shipping time to Peru calculator estimates door-to-door transit days from five inputs: origin ZIP code, destination city, actual and volumetric weight, service mode, and Incoterm. It returns a transit window, the gateway port or airport your region ships through, and a rate — priced for your exact origin, not a national average.

The inputs matter more than most shippers expect. A shipping time to Peru calculator that only asks for weight will guess wrong on bulky freight.

  • Origin ZIP code — decides which US gateway your cargo uses and the inland leg
  • Destination city and district — Lima, Callao, Arequipa or a provincial address changes the last mile
  • Piece count and dimensions — in cm or inches, per carton or pallet
  • Gross weight — actual scale weight, which gets compared against volumetric
  • Cargo type — general cargo, vehicle, personal effects or regulated goods
  • Incoterm 2020 — EXW, FOB, DAP or DDP, which sets who clears in Peru

The outputs give you a planning picture, not a single number. Expect a transit window with a low and high day count, the gateway used, your billable weight or CBM, the rate, and a clear line on whether duties and IGV are included or excluded.

What is volumetric (dimensional) weight and how does it affect Peru shipments?

Volumetric weight is the space your cargo occupies, converted into kilos. For air and courier, the formula is length × width × height, divided by a divisor the carrier sets, so check your carrier's divisor. The carrier bills whichever is higher: actual or volumetric.

Worked example. A box measuring 60 × 50 × 40 cm holds 120,000 cm³. Divide that by your carrier's divisor to get its volumetric weight. If that box weighs 9 kg on the scale but its volumetric weight is higher, you pay for the volumetric figure, not the scale weight.

For LCL, the ratio differs: the carrier compares volume in CBM against weight under its own rule. That is why dense cargo often belongs on air and bulky cargo on LCL, regardless of urgency. A pallet of ceramic tile and a pallet of pillows cost wildly different amounts on the same AWB.

Which inputs change your transit window the most?

Destination city outside Lima adds the most days after customs. A Cusco or Iquitos address can add more time than the entire difference between two US gateways.

Incoterm choice moves the delivery date by 1-4 days, because it decides who files and who waits. And the booking date matters against the port cut-off, not the vessel ETD — those are two different dates, and shippers confuse them constantly.

💡

Pro Tip

Which gateway serves you is not a preference, it is geography. Florida ships through Miami. Texas and the central states through Houston. California and the Southwest through Los Angeles/Long Beach. The Northeast through New York/New Jersey. The Southeast through Savannah. The Midwest moves by rail to a coastal port, usually via Chicago. The Pacific Northwest through Seattle. The calculator prices your exact origin ZIP rather than a national average.

How do I calculate shipping time to Lima, Peru?

Quick Answer: Calculate transit to Lima by adding five stages: pickup and consolidation (1-4 days), US export handling and port or airport cut-off (1-3 days), flight or sailing (1-27 days), SUNAT clearance (same day to 5 days), and final delivery in Lima (1-2 days). Then add a buffer for peaks.

The formula every shipping time to Peru calculator runs underneath:

Total door-to-door days = pickup + export handling + line haul + clearance + last mile + buffer

  1. Pickup and consolidation (1-4 days). Collection from your warehouse, inland trucking to the gateway, and CFS stuffing for LCL.
  2. Export handling and cut-off (1-3 days). Documentation, VGM, and delivery into the terminal before the cut-off. The port cut-off falls days before the vessel ETD, and missing it by hours costs a full sailing week.
  3. Line haul (1-27 days). Flight time to LIM, or the ocean leg: Los Angeles 14 days, New Jersey 18, Miami 19, Houston 27 (October 2026 schedules).
  4. SUNAT clearance (same day to 5 days). Driven by the control channel assigned on arrival.
  5. Last mile in Lima (1-2 days). Pickup from the terminal or courier delivery to the district.
  6. Buffer. Add 2-5 days in December, late July and during El Niño events.

Worked example A — air freight replenishment from Dallas

180 kg of apparel, picked up in Dallas, flown via Houston to Jorge Chávez International (LIM). Pickup and inland to IAH: 2 days. Export handling and airline cut-off: 1 day. Flight and arrival handling: 2 days. Green channel release: 1 day. Delivery to a Lima warehouse: 1 day. Total: 7 days door to door.

Worked example B — LCL from a Miami warehouse

2 m³ / 500 kg of consumer goods, port to port from Miami to Callao. The ocean leg is 19 days (October 2026 schedules), and consolidated cargo at that volume started from $448 in October 2026 on our quoting system. Deconsolidation at Callao and SUNAT clearance typically add 3-7 days before you collect the cargo. Prices move monthly — read the self-updating table under the opening answer for the current figure.

How fast are DHL, FedEx and UPS to Lima?

Quick Answer: DHL, FedEx and UPS deliver to Lima in 3-7 business days from most US cities. USPS handed to Serpost runs 10-20 days with weaker tracking. Scheduled air freight through Jorge Chávez International (LIM) moves 5-9 days door to door, with daily lift out of MIA, JFK and LAX.

UPS Worldwide Expedited3-54-7GoodYes

Consolidated air freight (AWB)5-75-9Milestone-level via forwarderVia broker

Airport pairs into LIM matter for frequency, not just flight hours. A missed connection in Panama or Bogotá adds a full day.

US airportFrequency to LIMAirport-to-airport daysRouting note
Miami (MIA)Daily, multiple1-2Mostly direct lift
New York (JFK)Daily1-3Some via MIA or PTY
Los Angeles (LAX)Daily2-3Often via MIA or BOG
Houston (IAH)Most days2-3Via PTY common
Chicago (ORD)Several weekly2-4Trucked to MIA on tight weeks

When air freight beats courier. Above roughly 70-100 kg, the per-kilo rate on consolidated air drops sharply against express tariffs. You trade a day or two of transit for a materially lower landed cost, and the shipment still clears in days, not weeks.

On the customs side, courier shipments ride a simplified regime. Per SUNAT's Envíos de Entrega Rápida guidance, individuals may use a DNI, PTP, carné de extranjería or safe-conduct pass — but only within limits: up to 3 imports a year at no more than US$1,000 FOB each, or 1 a year between US$1,000 and US$2,000. Beyond that, or for commercial goods, a RUC is required.

⚠️

Do not split an order to duck a threshold

Breaking one commercial order into several parcels to stay under a value limit is a classic inspection flag. It costs you days, not saves them. Confirm your import structure with a licensed agente de aduana before you ship, and confirm any rule not listed here with us or with that agent.

How long does ocean freight take from Miami to the Port of Callao?

Quick Answer: Ocean freight from Miami to Callao takes 19 days port to port on AB Group sailings quoted in October 2026. New Jersey runs 18 days, Los Angeles 14 days and Houston 27 days. LCL adds consolidation at origin and deconsolidation at Callao; FCL sails without those stops.

Other origins map onto these four. Savannah rides the East Coast rotation, approx. New Jersey's 18 days. Seattle and Vancouver route Pacific, approx. Los Angeles' 14 days. Midwest cargo moves by rail to a coastal port first, then picks up that port's count.

Consolidated cargo at 2 m³ / 500 kg, port to port from Miami, started from $448 in October 2026. That figure changes monthly, so the live table under the opening answer is the one to trust.

Paita and Matarani versus Callao

Peru has two useful secondary ports. Paita serves the north and is often the better landing point for Piura, Tumbes and Chiclayo. Matarani serves the south, including Arequipa and the mining corridor. Both usually add transshipment days versus a direct Callao call, so quote them through the calculator rather than assuming the sailing is identical.

LCL timing

LCL adds 2-5 days of CFS consolidation at origin while the container fills, then 3-7 days of deconsolidation and SUNAT handling at Callao. Your cargo waits for other people's cargo at both ends. It still wins below about 10 CBM, because you only pay for the space you use.

FCL timing

FCL skips both stops. The box is sealed at your warehouse or the terminal and opened at destination. Above roughly 10 CBM, FCL also wins on cost per cubic meter, and the day count becomes cleaner to promise a customer because fewer hands touch the freight.

Container terminals at Callao are operated by DP World Callao and APM Terminals (Ositran). In our experience on this corridor, terminal congestion, not the ocean leg, is what usually slips a delivery date. The vessel arrives on schedule; the gate appointment does not.

How long does Peru customs clearance take with SUNAT?

Quick Answer: SUNAT assigns every import a control channel: canal verde (direct release), canal naranja (document review) or canal rojo (physical inspection). The channel is assigned by SUNAT and cannot be negotiated. Under despacho anticipado, with the DAM numbered before arrival, a green-channel air shipment can be released the day it lands.

What is the SUNAT control channel (canal verde, naranja, rojo)?

The control channel is SUNAT's risk decision on your entry, assigned on arrival. Per SUNAT's Asignación del canal de control page (checked November 2026):

  • Canal verde — direct release, no document review and no inspection
  • Canal naranja — document review by the customs officer
  • Canal rojo — physical inspection of the cargo

SUNAT does not publish a guaranteed clearance duration per channel. From AB Group's operational experience on the USA-Peru corridor, green entries move fastest, orange adds a review cycle and red adds the longest wait. For timing on a specific entry, ask your licensed agente de aduana — they can see the DAM status you cannot.

Clean HS classification and an invoice value that matches the declaration reduce orange and red hits. And despacho anticipado is the single fastest lever: numbering the DAM before the aircraft or vessel arrives means a green-channel air shipment can be released the same day it lands (SUNAT, Sin Garantías - Despacho Anticipado).

Which documents keep you in the green channel?

Per SUNAT's Instituto Aduanero y Tributario Curso Básico de Aduanas (2023) and procedure DESPA-PG.01 v.8:

  • DAM — the import declaration, ideally numbered before arrival
  • Consignee's RUC — required by SUNAT for imports
  • Commercial invoice — values matching the declaration to the cent
  • Transport document — AWB for air, B/L for ocean
  • Certificate of origin — only when claiming trade-agreement preference

Why is my shipment stuck in Peruvian customs?

The causes repeat. Missing or mismatched RUC. An invoice value below reference. An incomplete or inconsistent transport document. Or goods that need a prior permit nobody secured.

Ask your broker for three things: the DAM number, the assigned channel, and the specific observation raised. Without the observation text, nobody can fix anything. The storage clock at the terminal keeps running during a hold, so respond to document requests the same day.

⚠️

Taxes are rates, not quotes

Peru's import taxes are calculated on the CIF value — goods plus international freight plus insurance (SUNAT). From 2026 the IGV/IPM split is 15.5% + 2.5%, stepping yearly until it reaches IGV 14% + IPM 4% in 2029; the combined 18% does not change (Ley 32387, 16-06-2025). Worked example: a CIF value of US$10,000 attracts 18% combined = US$1,800, before ad valorem duty, which depends on your tariff line. Confirm your HS code with a licensed customs agent.

Separately, the percepción del IGV on imports is an advance payment, creditable later against your sales IGV (SUNAT). It is not an extra tax, and it does not change your transit days — it changes your cash flow.

Machinery and equipment imports can be selected for physical inspection. Regulated goods such as food, medicines, plants and some electronics may need a prior permit. Confirm which entity authorizes your product with us or a licensed agente de aduana before you ship.

How do Incoterms 2020 change your delivery date to Peru?

Quick Answer: Your Incoterm sets who clears the cargo in Peru, and that decides the clearance clock. Under DDP the seller takes on import clearance and taxes, but how that works in Peru depends on the setup, so confirm it with a licensed agente de aduana before shipping. DAP leaves clearance to the consignee, who needs a RUC. FOB Callao and EXW shift handling to one party, usually adding days at one end.

What is DDP shipping to Peru?

DDP means delivered duty paid: the US seller stays responsible through Peruvian import clearance and taxes. It looks attractive to the buyer, who receives cargo with nothing left to pay.

The insider warning: DDP exposes the US seller to import-side liability in Peru, including tax registration questions and any post-clearance review. You are now a party to a customs file in a country where you have no office. Many experienced exporters price DDP higher for exactly that reason.

DAP versus DDP on timing

DAP can be faster when the Peruvian consignee already holds an active RUC and keeps a broker on retainer. Their file is open, their history is clean, and the DAM gets numbered early.

DDP can be faster for first-time buyers with no RUC history, because your side controls the paperwork. The right choice depends on the buyer's customs maturity, not on the Incoterm's reputation.

💡

Pro Tip

EXW frequently costs the buyer 2-4 extra days on US origin pickup. The seller has no incentive to rush a pallet onto a truck they are not paying for. On repeat lanes, FCA at the seller's dock removes that friction without transferring import liability.

How many extra days does it take to deliver to Cusco or Iquitos instead of Lima?

Quick Answer: Delivery beyond Lima adds 1-5 days. Arequipa, Trujillo and Chiclayo run 1-2 days by road from Lima. Cusco and Puno take 2-4 days over highland routes. Iquitos cargo usually moves by air or river and adds 3-5 days, with limited service from some couriers.

3-5Extra days to Iquitos

Cargo to Iquitos usually flies in or travels the Amazon by barge, which runs on its own schedule.

Pick the right port, not the fastest sailing. Paita can beat Callao for Piura and northern Peru, and Matarani for Arequipa and the south. You lose a day or two at sea and save three on the road. For heavy freight, that math usually favors the closer port.

Highland and jungle routes carry real constraints. Domestic feeder flights apply strict weight and dimension limits. Rainy-season weather can close or slow highland and jungle roads. River schedules to Iquitos run on the water level, not your calendar.

One last detail that burns e-commerce sellers: some express carriers deliver only to a local agency office in remote districts, not to the door. Confirm the service level before you promise a customer a date.

What delays shipments to Peru, and how do you ship faster?

Quick Answer: Peru transit times stretch in December, around Fiestas Patrias in late July, and during El Niño weather, terminal congestion at Callao or carrier blank sailings. Pre-file documents, confirm the consignee's RUC before departure, and book ahead of the port cut-off rather than the vessel ETD.

The seasonal calendar

Bookings tighten from early November for the pre-Christmas peak. Space gets scarce and rates climb before volumes even move. National holidays such as Fiestas Patrias in late July can slow clearance and domestic trucking. Semana Santa does the same in a shorter burst. Chinese New Year drains Pacific capacity in January or February, which reaches Peru through repositioning, not direct sailings.

Disruption factors to watch in 2026

  • El Niño rainfall — coastal and highland road damage, especially north of Lima
  • Port labor actions — occasional, and they hit gate appointments first
  • Blank sailings — carriers skip a call when a rotation runs late, costing you a full week
  • Chancay terminal — the new deep-water port north of Lima is reshaping Pacific rotations and may shift some calls away from Callao

The speed checklist

  1. Number the DAM before arrival under despacho anticipado.
  2. Classify your goods correctly — the HS code drives both duty and risk scoring.
  3. Verify the consignee's RUC is active before the cargo departs.
  4. Match the invoice and transport document to the cent.
  5. Secure permits for regulated goods before loading, never after arrival.
  6. Arrange cargo insurance — it also feeds the CIF value your taxes are built on.
💡

Tracking playbook

Keep four reference points at hand: the AWB or B/L number, the carrier's milestone feed, and from your broker, the DAM number and assigned channel. If a hold runs past 48 hours with no written observation, escalate to your agente de aduana directly rather than waiting on email.

Every lane prices differently, and no national average will tell you your date. Enter your origin ZIP, destination city and cargo details in the calculator on this page to get a transit window and a rate for your exact lane — FCL, LCL, air or courier, with no signup and no follow-up calls. If your cargo is project freight, oversized or regulated, the same form routes it to a specialist for a custom quote.

How long does it take to ship a package from the USA to Peru?+

Express courier parcels reach Lima in 3-7 business days, air freight runs 5-9 days door to door, and ocean freight takes 14-27 days port to port depending on your US gateway. SUNAT clearance and delivery outside Lima add days on top. Enter your origin and destination in the calculator on this page for your exact transit window.

How long does ocean freight take from Miami to the Port of Callao?+

About 19 days port to port on AB Group sailings scheduled for October 2026, with Los Angeles at 14 days, New Jersey at 18 and Houston at 27. Those counts cover the ocean leg only, from the departure port to Callao. Add SUNAT clearance and domestic delivery to reach your door date.

How long does Peru customs clearance take?+

It depends on the control channel SUNAT assigns: canal verde releases directly, canal naranja triggers a document review and canal rojo a physical inspection, and the channel cannot be negotiated. Under despacho anticipado, with the DAM numbered before arrival, a green-channel air shipment can be released the day it lands. For timing on a specific entry, ask a licensed agente de aduana.

What taxes will I pay on an import into Peru?+

Peru's import taxes are calculated on the CIF value, which is goods value plus international freight plus insurance. From 2026 the IGV/IPM split is 15.5% plus 2.5%, and the combined 18% stays unchanged until it reaches IGV 14% plus IPM 4% in 2029. Ad valorem duty depends on your tariff line, so confirm your HS code with a licensed customs agent.

How many extra days does delivery to Cusco or Iquitos take compared with Lima?+

Cusco typically adds 2-4 days after the cargo clears in Lima, and Iquitos adds 3-5 days because cargo usually moves by air or river. Arequipa, Trujillo and Chiclayo usually add 1-2 days by road. Rainy-season road closures can extend highland and jungle routes further.
